A new Lidl for

Proposed site plan

The site

The proposed foodstore would re-use a brownfield site, close to the town centre. The store will be located on the site of vacant employment units that have not been occupied for many years despite active marketing and are now in a derelict state. Those industrial units which are currently occupied will not be affected by this development.

The proposed development

If approved, Lidl will begin construction immediately to build their latest, modern-spec supermarket in Bromborough. The proposals include:

  • A new 1,256sq m (13,519 sq ft) net sales Lidl supermarket in an easily accessible location
  • Up to 40 new full and part time job opportunities for local people
  • 120 car parking spaces including disabled and parent & child spaces
  • Two Electric Vehicle charging points
  • Improved access from Thursby Road, plus improved pedestrian and cycle links
  • A new left in/left out car park entrance and exit onto Caldbeck Road
  • Trees and landscaping retained and enhanced where possible

Traffic impact

Our proposals have been previously rigorously assessed by Wirral Council’s Highways Team, who concluded that a new Lidl store on this site would be acceptable in principle.

The site is well-located and connected to the wider local footpath network.

Secure cycle parking for staff and customers is proposed at the front of the store, in a well-monitored location. The site is well-connected to the local cycle network, which will enable cycling as a substitute for short car trips.

Bus services

The site is well-located for the bus network, close to local bus stops on Croft Avenue East and Spital Road.
